FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(DEDHAM, MA) – Greater Boston Urology recently announced the official opening of its Women’s Health Center at 910 Washington Street in Dedham, Massachusetts. The Center will cater to female patients experiencing pelvic floor disorders. Dr. Angel Marie Johnson, a urogynecologist who completed her training at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, will be heading up the Center.

Urogynecology (also known as Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery) is a surgical sub-specialty of gynecology that focuses on female pelvic floor disorders (pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain, and bladder and bowel dysfunction) with the goal of improving a woman’s quality of life.

One of Dr. Johnson’s hopes is for the Center to serve the local community. “There’s a dearth of urogynecologists in the area,” Dr. Johnson says. “We’re hoping Dedham will become a regional referral center for women with pelvic disorders.”

She also notes that it’s important to create a warm and safe environment where women can feel comfortable talking about the issues they face as they age. Too often, women will ignore symptoms that are treatable and instead learn “to live” with them. Dr. Johnson explains, “Urogynecology’s main focus is to improve a woman’s quality of life. For example, do you find yourself limiting travel due to an overactive bladder? Are you afraid to cough or sneeze or belly laugh because you’re worried you might have an accident? My goal is to provide treatment that brings relief and that gets you back to living your life.”

Greater Boston Urology COO Les Cavicchi adds, “We are excited for our new Women’s Health Center and we’re incredibly lucky to have Dr. Johnson as the director of our Women’s Health Division. Her energy, knowledge, and training make her a huge asset to GBU.”

The Women’s Health Center is part of Greater Boston Urology – Dedham, which serves as GBU’s headquarters.
