Interventional radiology (IR) is a medical specialty in which board-certified, fellowship-trained physicians perform minimally invasive treatments using radiologic imaging for procedure guidance.

These minimally invasive procedures offer many advantages:

Same-day, office-based appointments
Quicker recovery times
Low complication risks
No general anesthesia needed
Easier to schedule

How can IR be used?

Interventional radiology can be used to treat a variety of urologic and urogynecologic conditions. Procedures include the following:

Prostate artery embolization (PAE) for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
Varicocele embolization
Uterine fibroid embolization (UFE)
Ovarian vein embolization for the treatment of pelvic congestion syndrome
Rectal artery embolization for the treatment of hemorrhoids
Kidney tumor or angiomyolipoma (AML) embolization
