Men's Health Week is a great time for guys (and those who love them) to reflect on their health needs and to take ACTION!

If you're a guy and you've been putting off having your doctor check some nagging symptoms or maybe you've postponed a regular checkup or elective procedure due to the pandemic, now is a GREAT time to reschedule those appointments.

Appointments with Greater Boston Urology

If you're currently a Greater Boston Urology patient, you can see your urologist in-person or via telemedicine. You and your doctor will determine if telemedicine makes sense; depending on what's going on, an in-person visit might be necessary.

If you need a urologist and you're in Massachusetts, you're in luck: our physicians are seeking new patients, and we have nine convenient Care Centers to choose from, including three on the Cape, including our newest Care Center in Hyannis).

In addition, we offer urogynecology for women in our Dedham Care Center as well as pelvic floor physical therapy for women AND men. That last part is unusual: not many pelvic floor PTs in the area treat men. Alicia Jeffrey-Thomas is our wonderful physical therapist and is great at making all her patients feel relaxed. You'll be amazed how pelvic floor physical therapy can improve certain bladder and bowel issues, such as incontinence, overactive bladder, constipation, and IBS (just to name a few). And it's non-invasive! So a total win. Learn more about pelvic floor physical therapy here.

OK, onto our latest roundup of important articles for Men’s Health Week 2020. All are related to men's urologic health, including expanded sections on prostate cancer and erectile dysfunction.

General Urology Topics Related to Men:

  • What is BPH? In this article, Dr. Michael J. Curran discusses benign prostatic hyperplasia (an enlarged prostate gland), including treatment options.
  • How Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy Treats Interstitial Cystitis. Interstitial cystitis is a chronic inflammatory condition that affects the bladder, the pelvic floor muscles, and the nerves and the fascia in the pelvic region. It can cause symptoms such as urgency and frequency of urination. It affects women AND men.

Prostate Cancer:

  • Understanding BRCA Gene Mutations & Prostate Cancer. Most people have probably heard of BRCA gene mutations, particularly when it comes to women and breast cancer/ovarian cancer. What many people don’t know is the connection between BRCA gene mutations and prostate cancer.
